How to Be a Leader in Network Marketing

If you want a strong team, you have to be strong yourself. To be a good leader in network marketing, you have to work on yourself first. This means learning new skills, reading books, and finding people to teach you. The best leaders always keep learning.

What to Do: Spend 30 minutes a day learning something new. Watch a video, read a book, or listen to a podcast. Write down one thing you’ll do differently after learning.

2. The 5 Steps to Teaching Your Team

Here’s a simple way to help your team learn and grow:

  • Step 1: I Do It — Show them how it’s done. If you want your team to make calls, you have to make calls first.

  • Step 2: I Do It, You Watch — Let your team watch you do it. They’ll see how it’s done the right way.

  • Step 3: You Do It, I Watch — Now they try it! You watch and give tips to help them do better.

  • Step 4: You Do It — They’re ready to do it on their own, but you’re still there if they need help.

  • Step 5: You Do It, They Watch — Now they’re teaching someone else! This is how you build a big team.

What to Do: Pick one person on your team this week. Teach them using these 5 steps.

3. Ask Questions, Don’t Guess

Don’t assume you know what your team members want. People have different goals. Some people want money. Others want friends, growth, or recognition. To know what’s important to them, you have to ask questions.

What to Do: Ask your team, “What excites you most about this business?” Use their answer to help them succeed.

4. Think “How Can I?” Not “Can I?”

When things get tough, some people ask, “Can I do this?” and give up. Successful people ask, “How can I do this?” They look for solutions, not problems. This mindset change makes a huge difference.

What to Do: The next time you’re stuck, ask, “How can I solve this?” Write down 3 ideas and try one.

5. People Follow Leaders They Like

Your team doesn’t follow you because you’re “The Boss.” They follow you because they like and trust you. To be a great leader, be kind, helpful, and supportive.

What to Do: Call or message 3 team members today and ask, “How can I help you this week?” They’ll feel supported and work harder.

6. Serve Your Team

A good leader serves their team. It’s not about being the boss. It’s about working together. When you help others win, you win too.

What to Do: Do one nice thing for your team this week. It could be sharing a resource, giving advice, or just checking in.

7. Use Your Strengths

Don’t waste time on things you’re bad at. If you’re good at talking to people, do more of that. If your team member is good at presenting, let them present! Focus on strengths, not weaknesses.

What to Do: Write down 3 things you’re good at. Do more of those things each day. If you’re great at talking to people, make more calls.

8. Mistakes Are Lessons

Everyone messes up. Mistakes don’t mean you failed—they’re lessons. Learn from them and keep going.

What to Do: If something goes wrong (like losing a sale), ask, “What did I learn?” Write it down so you don’t make the same mistake twice.

9. Lift Your Leadership Lid

Your business can only grow as much as you grow. If you’re a "5" as a leader, your business will be a "4." But if you grow to a "7" or “8,” your business will grow too. This is called lifting your lid.

What to Do: Pick one thing to get better at (like sales or follow-ups) and set a goal to improve by 1 level. If you’re a "5" at follow-ups, aim to become a "6.” Take action every day.

10. Multiply, Don’t Just Add

If you teach one person to recruit, that’s addition. But if you teach them to teach others, that’s multiplication. This is how big teams are built.

What to Do: Find one person on your team who’s ready to lead. Teach them how to train others. Watch them as they train a new recruit.

Conclusion

If you want to grow your network marketing team, it’s simple. Work on yourself, serve your team, and teach them to lead. The more you help others grow, the bigger your team will get. Take action every day to build your skills and help your team do the same.
